SOLDIERS have claimed they cannot get hold of the swine flu vaccine.

Members of the Defence Forces based on the border have gone down with the bug, prompting calls to make them priority cases.

Some of the men serving in areas where the Army had to assist families hit by the severe flooding in the south and west claimed last week they were excluded.

One officer said: “Despite being exposed to considerable risk because of the nature of the service we have been providing, we have been told that no vaccine was available.”

A Defence Forces spokesman said yesterday he had “no information” about any complaints.

A GRIEVING stepson today paid tribute to his popular biker stepfather who died after a road accident. Jade Shaw, 24, said his motorbike-loving stepfather Andrew Bohdan, who had brought him up from the age of one, was liked by everyone. Mr Shaw, who shared his Marsden house with his stepfather and their two dogs, said he considered Mr Bohdan his true dad. He said Mr Bohdan was well known in the biking community and his friends included Huddersfield-born former superbike champion Jamie Whitham.

Mr Bohdan died yesterday morning after his car was involved in a head-on collision in Slaithwaite. Police said he got out of the car seconds after the crash but collapsed with chest pains and died at Hud-dersfield Royal Infirmary. A postmortem to determine the cause of death was taking place today

shave off the mustache he’s worn since 1986 tomorrow morning live on 93.3 WMMR’s Preston and Steve show.

The hosts are living in an RV at Plymouth Meeting’s Metroplex Shopping Center in their annual Campout for Hunger to raise money for Philabundance, and Jackson’s shave is for charity.

Jackson told us yesterday that more than $600 was pledged to Preston and Steve for Philabundance moments after he agreed to shave. His wife of 18 years, Bernadette , has never seen him clean-shaven. But she wants to.

Bernadette’s been asking him to shave for the past few years.

His first bald-faced broadcast will be at 7 Thursday night on Comcast SportsNet for the Flyers/Canucks game.

While the nation’s residential housing market continues to try and right itself, a new survey offers a little bright news for the residential housing industry.

In late November, Zillow.com, an online real estate information service, said its third-quarter survey of homeowner confidence showed that 84 percent of the country’s homeowners believe their home’s value had reached a bottom and would not decline any further.

The data was part of a quarterly Zillow analysis that gauges homeowner confidence across the U.S. and how homeowners’ perception of their own home’s value compares to reality.

That confidence level, Zillow officials said, has changed dramatically over two years.

“We’ve seen a lot of changes in the past six quarters,” said Zillow spokesman Amy Bohutinsky. “Homeowners have inched closer to reality by acknowledging widespread home value slides.”

According to Zillow’s recent survey, 41 percent of American homeowners believe their home’s value will increase in the next six months, while 43 percent say their home’s value with stay the same. Only 17 percent of the nation’s homeowners think their home’s value will decrease.

We’ve got a lot of opposing forces in the coming six months that may impact what happens with home values, and it’s getting more and more difficult to predict,” Bohutinsky said in a blog posting on Zillow’s Web site. “On the one hand, increasing foreclosures and, possibly, rising mortgage rates could contribute to further home declines in many parts of the country
