Essential things to you should keep in mind
in Home / Interior Design (submitted 2010-05-19)
Bedroom is the place where you unwind and relax after a day full of stress and tensions. It is here where you spend some good moment of happiness and togetherness with your loved one. Hence, when your doing a master bedroom makeover it has to be made in such a way that you can forget about all your tensions and totally give in to the soothing colors and dcor of the room.
First you have to find out the area of the room and how you want to place the furniture. Depending on the size of your bedroom, you need to determine what kind of furniture you can fit into the room or if you can take out a space for a sitting area.
Selecting the right shade of colors is very important. Select a color which is soothing and relaxing to yours eyes. You should go for soft and peaceful colors like light shade of yellows or green or blues. You may also opt for lavender or warm brown shades. If you want to give your master bedroom a touch of romance, then you can decide on colors like red or pink or burgundy. You can also choose to paint the walls in two different shades of color to evoke a mixed feeling of romance as well as relaxation. You may also put a wall paper on one side of the wall and have the three sides painted with a color that would go well with the wall paper.
You can decorate your bedroom with all those things that are close to you like having family photos, your favorite old furniture or books. In case you have a fireplace in your master bedroom, decorate with artworks and paintings that give an elegant look to the fireplace. Think of removing the television from the bedroom if you presently have one there.
Television may disrupt your sleep if you get hooked on to watching a particular television program late at night. It also takes away the quality time which you would have otherwise spent with your loved one

Think small.
We gain weight because of the types of food we eat and the amount we eat. For now, we are going to concentrate on the quantity of our intake – calories DO count.
Start thinking small at the market. Yes, the food producers give us a price break if we buy the “economy” size (they have a vested interest in keep our appetites unfettered). We can save even more by buying in bulk. At this stage in our weight loss program, we are less interested in saving money than in saving our diet. Buy the smallest available size of everything.
When you start to prepare your meal, estimate how much of each item you need, and then reduce by 25%. Use dessert instead of dinner plates.

Solid, substantial home
0 Comments | Press, The; Christchurch, New Zealand, May 15, 2010
This is definitely the home you want to buy when the children are either too young to leave, flatly refuse to leave, or insist on coming back whenever the mood takes them.
With six bedrooms, three bathrooms, a self-contained apartment and large interconnecting living areas opening to decks and a sublime in-ground pool, spa pool and barbecue area, this is not so much a home as a holiday resort, all 440 square metres of it.
Last resort is also how its owners would probably describe its forthcoming auction. They have already bought their next property and need a sale, preferably before, if not actually on, auction day.
Fortunately, there will probably be no shortage of potential buyers given the unique combination of size and location of this property.
This solid and substantial family home sits at the top of Westmorland and offers three levels of expansive living for families, extended families and those looking for a great work from home option.
Starting from the portico, the stained glass and wood panelled doors open on to a traditional black and white tiled foyer which gives access to the second level of the house.
Overhead is a stunning chandelier in delicate candy floss pink and clear crystal, with another similarly styled chandelier lighting the stairwell landing.
Straight ahead, and separated from the foyer by white-panelled wooden doors is the first, and biggest, of the living areas, offering all the light and sun of the north-west position and views that encompass the city and the magnificence of the Southern Alps.
During the day, it’s an impressive sight, while at night it’s your own private light show that can be enjoyed from the living area or the deck that runs along its length.
When the cooler months arrive the sun can be supplemented by a large Weji log burner, renowned for prolific and efficient output of heat.
Adjoining the central living area, to the left, is the second, smaller one.
This well-proportioned room makes for an ideal media room, separate sitting area, library or office and enjoys the same views and direct access to the deck.
With a single bedroom and a bathroom also on this level, the uses for these rooms can easily interchange from office to guest bedroom or vice versa.
A large dining area, again opening to the deck, is to the right, and all these areas are carpeted in a pale oatmeal wool carpet.
The adjacent kitchen has a contemporary grey and white finish, with a charcoal speckled bench top, white cabinetry and steel hardware.
The Bosch dishwasher is a useful addition given the number of people this home can accommodate on either a permanent or, in the case of entertaining, temporary basis, as is the extensive storage.
Likewise the large separate laundry, with direct access to the utility area outside is not just desirable, but in a house of this size, probably mandatory.
Carpeted stairs, in a soft sage green, lead you upstairs to the main family bedrooms.
Two large bedrooms with fitted, built-in wardrobes offer city and rural views and are serviced by a large white-tiled family bathroom.
The main suite may be closed off to create a separate area and comprises a large double bedroom, walk-in fitted wardrobe, white- tiled ensuite with a shower, bath, bidet, toilet and vanity and a smaller separate room which could be an office, nursery or large dressing area.
The ensuite has its own dedicated hot water cylinder so the rest of the family can shower to their heart’s content without running the parents’ shower dry.
From the foyer, a wide staircase leads downstairs to a self- contained apartment which opens onto the solar heated pool and barbecue area.
This apartment has an enormous bedroom, an ensuite and sauna and large living, dining and kitchen area.

SPACIOUS HOME FOR COMFORTABLE LIFESTYLE
Make no mistake about it, if you have teenagers then you’re also going to have to enter into lengthy negotiations as to who exactly is going to take ownership of what essentially is the perfect flat for those who are ready to leave home but are without the funds to do so.
Alternatively, it’s where you may want to accommodate an older parent who prefers not to live alone but still wants their own space within the family home.
Comfortable as it is, this home would also update very quickly if you are after a more contemporary look.
Well placed for services and recreational activities, properties of this size with city views and easy access and off-street parking are understandably sought after

(It’s okay, we checked him out. He went to Concord High, so we’ll overlook the fact he lives in Weare.)
Were you fascinated with fire as a child?
Yes. As a young boy I would set small fires in the woods, then put them out at the last minute, just before they got out of control.
What’s the best barbecue sauce?
Traditional Southern style – vinegar and red pepper sauce.
Describe your spice tolerance level.
On a 1-10 scale, I’m probably an 8. Some foods that people with wimpy taste buds think is “spicy,” I can’t detect any.
What kind of equipment do you use to barbecue?
A Kamado #7 (A 400-pound ceramic smoker) using natural hardwood charcoal, and a Weber Genesis gas grill.
What’s the best meat to barbecue?
Of course the answer to this is pork. Silly question. (Unless the question was grilling rather than BBQing . . . then I’d give the advantage to beef or fish.)
Do you wear an apron when you barbecue? If so, what does it look like?
Only when I am cooking while naked. I need the pocket on the apron to hold BBQ sauce, and the apron protects tender areas from grease spatters. I think the apron has some kind of Pokemon logo thing on it.
Do you have any great marinade or other barbecue-related recipes?
The secret for pork and chicken is to brine. Brine, baby brine.

Were you fascinated with fire as a child?
No I wasn’t fascinated with fire as a child. Sorry . . . just a regular guy who likes to cook and likes smoked pork parts. I often will BBQ for the my neighbors. We just had a Mothers Day party for 12. I smoked a pork shoulder and three racks of baby back ribs. The cook time was 24 hours.
What’s the best barbecue sauce?
The best BBQ sauce contains lots of brown sugar and vinegar. I’m partial to the North Carolina vinegar-based sauces.
Describe your spicy tolerance level.
I like it hot. Really hot . . . and can tolerate a habanero pepper. But I often cook for others, so I have to tone it down a bit. Once I made a bunch of ribs for a party and used a little too much cayenne pepper. Everyone complained that they were too hot. However, every rib eventually got eaten.
What kind of equipment do you use to barbecue?
I have a Char Broil bullet smoker, a Weber Smokey Joe and a Brinkmann water smoker.
What’s the best meat to barbecue?
I’m fond of baby back ribs. Only about four to five hours to cook with lots of flavor. Pulled pork is a favorite, too, it just takes a long time. Just set it and forget it.
Do you wear an apron?
No I don’t wear an apron when I BBQ. Just an old ratty Johnny Damon T-shirt that I don’t mind getting all dirty!!
Do you have any great marinade or other barbecue related recipes?
(He does.)
BBQ Babyback Rib on a gas grill
1 or more racks of baby back ribs
Smoker or gas grill
1 cup of rub (see below)
Hardwood chunks. Apple, maple or mesquite will work fine
Rib Rub
1/2 cup of chili powder
1/4 cup paprika
1/3 cup brown sugar
2 tbs salt
2 tbs onion powder
2 tbs garlic powder
1 tbs garam masala
1 tbs cumin
1 tbs black pepper
Optional cayenne power to taste
First, clean the ribs in the sink and pat dry with paper towels. Flip ribs over to concave side and carefully remove the membrane from the underside. It may help to use a dish towel to get ahold of it. Just pull it right off completely. Then sprinkle the ribs liberally with rub. Give them a good coating and rub the spice into the meat with your hand. Let the ribs sit overnight to soak up the rub flavors.
Soak wood in water for 30 minutes or more. If you’re using a gas grill, leave the burners off for a while. Get a tinfoil lasagna or bread pan and fill it with charcoal.
DO NOT USE self starting charcoal! It will make the ribs taste like gasoline.
Let charcoal burn till they are dusty white. Place ribs on one side of the grill and the tin with the charcoal on the other. Toss a few fist-sized chunks of wood on top of charcoal. Don’t turn the gas on yet.
Close the lid and let the ribs smoke for about two hours. Flip the ribs at the one hour mark. Try not to peek! Toss in a few more charcoal briquettes and wood as needed to keep the fire and smoke going. At the two-hour mark, remove the charcoal pan from the grill and extinguish. Wrap the ribs in two layers of tinfoil and return to the grill. Now fire up the gas burner on left side of grill. Bring it up to medium-low. Place ribs in foil on right side. Let ribs sit for another two hours, flipping them after an hour

Tobin cops widen hunt in Brighton
Tobin cops widen hunt in Brighton
0 Comments | Evening Times; Glasgow (UK), Jul 14, 2010
Detectives searching the gardens of two of serial killer Peter Tobin’s former homes have moved their hunt to inside the properties.
Tobin lived at the addresses, in Brighton, during the early 1980s when a number of local women went missing.
Police have concentrated on the cellar of Ye Olde Tearoom in the Portslade district, run by Tobin in 1988 and where he lived with his future wife, Cathy Wilson, and their baby son.
One neighbour told police he was shown a tiny gold bracelet that Tobin claimed had been embedded in an old fireplace he was working on in the former junk shop.
Police believe Tobin, 63, took jewellery as trophies from his unidentified victims.
Neighbours also reported that Tobin often had foreign students as lodgers in a flat adjoining the shop, where he had carried out a substantial amount of DIY work and cleared the garden.
Police are also examining the inside of the former Seafront Hotel in Marine Parade, Brighton, where Tobin is said to have worked as a caretaker and handyman.
Tobin is currently serving three life sentences, for the murders of Polish student Angelika Kluk, Bathgate schoolgirl Vicky Hamilton and Essex teenager Dinah McNicol.

Get scissors that fit your
Get scissors that fit your hand comfortably and are appropriate to the job ? if you have short hair, you don?t need the longest pair, and if you like choppy layers, you may want to also buy a pair that has gaps set especially for cutting the hair at different lengths with a single slice.
Don?t use hair scissors for any other household tasks, or they will dull quickly. Dull scissors tug and snag and it hurts, and they also wreck your hair. To have scissors sharpened, you will need to send them off to a professional, unless you have one in your area.
2) Mirror, mirror, on the wall:
To cut your hair, you first need to see your hair. You will need excellent and well-lighted mirrors, positioned so that you can see everything without having to twist your arms and head into a pretzel.

Keep an open mind to avoid style rut
I have to admit that I’m not a huge fan of modern decor.
For me, the avant-garde style feels too stark and austere. I prefer living in a space with a sense of history and all of the trappings that go along with that decor style. If I had to live in a modern decor I’d want it to look like our feature room. The mix of urban with country makes for quite an interesting space.
This room shows how blending two almost completely opposite styles can be a successful venture. The addition of the natural wood and stone elements give this otherwise sleek space texture and movement. It also injects nature into the room in a primitive way that is successfully juxtaposed to the urban loft space. Floor-to-ceiling windows give the illusion that you are part of the outdoor scenery, and driftwood accessories help support the look.
The roughly hewn dining table is fabulous and would fit into a country home as well as it does in this modern loft. I’ve seen similar unique tables and furniture at Lindsay Steek’s if you’re looking for something along this line. The solid stone accent table is an interesting touch that further injects the country to this urban/country decor. It’s sculptural, natural and functional to boot. This is a natural element in its rawest form.
A few well-chosen natural accessories help finish the look while maintaining the integrity of urban design by not cluttering up the space. Even the accessories have been carefully chosen to incorporate the mix of modern and country. For instance, the three table plants are in pots that look like natural stone but they are square. Rather than go with traditional round pots, the decision to use square ones infuses the modern aspect of the room into the mix. The seashells on the coffee table are not coloured, which gives a more contemporary look to otherwise earthy elements

The holidays are a time
The holidays are a time for family, good cheer and parties, but don?t forget about your Pomeranian in all the hustle and bustle!
The ?end of the year? holidays in particular can present some health hazards for your Pom. Here?s some ideas below on how you can get through this season with a healthy pet and peace of mind.
One thing that is very important at any time of year but especially during the holidays when hours may be cut short is to make sure you check your vet’s holiday hours and emergency contacts and have the information easily accessible.
Take precautions when decorating with plants. Your Pomeranian may chew on household plants, and many, including mistletoe and some poinsettias, can make your pet very ill.
